HI Friends,
I did a course on java & j2ee from NIIT (Chennai). The meterial provided was from SUN and it was really good. The facult itself don't know many topics in that meterial. To clear the course from NIIT we need to attend two online exams for java and j2ee , the faulty has answered the questions for my batch and i got 80% in those exams. For j2ee , in the first day of the class what he explained , the same thing he did in the last of the class. I didn't gain any knowledge but wasted 18000 . (my opinon) Note : They gave me the certificates(the useful one) thanks, jaya |

hi friends
individually we should not comment about any specific institutes but from my own experience i learned to not to join any course in private sectors i did vb&oracle from radiant which was closed two years back faculty was too good but unfortunately i was not able to attend the classes properly. next i did .dot course for 8500/- (in 2003)in ssi the center where i joined closed and overtaken by aptech and that time i needed to shift my place from one state another state and i need to transfer my course to another state which took hardly seven months after making 100 calls to head office , even for eye wash vb.net asp.net covered and fundamentals of html, xml but they promised for c#,webcomponents, practical real project but end with eyewash. next i joined core java j2e (as it is subject of 2nd and 5th semester )in cmc faculty was too good but he left inbetween without finish our batch (he got placement in for lumsum amount )and with some fresh faculty they adjusted but what i gained-its loss only . so comparatively doing a course is separate thing and doing individual study is separate thing so i started to learn on my own way (but it is too late for me )self study is very important and forum like we can discuss and share our knowledge which benefit to all. i will try my best . share your opinions. |

As far as NIIT is concerned it depends upon the center....here i did C language from NIIT......they did all but imagine "Recursion" was excluded from the syllabus.....they only teach what is contained in their books ( thin book which they follow and are provided to all the students)......here most of the students prefer not to opt NIIT..... they are simply money suckers......they give no importance to practical which is the integral part.......also if they are telling they ll take 2 months.....then this means they ll finish off within 30- 40 daya at max.......and regarding the 40% discount this was there one year back also........this offer remains all time......and faculty depends on the center......it is'nt faculty is too good.......one of my friend did data stuctures from there...n it was horrible......no programming at all.....
So here we go for other institutes than NIIT which teaches good in 5k -6k. |

hmm well frankly speaking i wont get(take) time out to study individually and then give exam on my own...
its like if u pay for something u tend to use it fully- but if its coming free - i mean on our own - i doubt i will ever finish learning concepts like RMI, STRUTS, JSP, Beans and much more... talking abt knowledge abt java - i just know what is java and some of its features/concepts - i want to do an indepth study - i do have good books downloaded for java ranging from pages 500 to 2000 - i will b buying some of it to study - but i dont think its possible with my job to study on my own... lets see i havent decided yet - may b by next week i will decide - well thanks for all the help/guidance u ppl have provided... :thanks:  |

Vaby if only the certification is what you want then you can get it.
i dont think its that difficult..... but i will not say java is EASY... But to become an expert in java is not that easy even i am NOT an expert [:D] if you know java and you have strong base... then to to learn other concepts become easy. |

hmm i do have a little knowledge abt java... though not very expert...
is java that easy - that one can give sun certification exams and clear it at one go... my ultimate target is - Sun Certified Web Component Developer (SCWCD) but this certification i will take only after some experiance... |

I too think NIIT is not a good option. Have you enquired about the package of the guaranteed placement?
If you have good hold on basics of java, as you said that you had an inclination towards java, then I would suggest you to directly apply for sun certification preparing on your own |

Frankly speaking Vaby, i dont feel that NIIT is a good option.... no doubt the syllabus they show covers all the java and adv java.... but it depends more how how they teach.... getting the concepts is much more important

yes i inquired with NIIT, APTECH and KarRox for java ....
i found NIIT best - coz it gives full sun curiculam with sun certificate(at extra cost - but discounted @40%) cource is of 2 months and they give guaranteed placement... rest both dont provide guaranteed placements... we have to search on our own... NIIT costs approx java adv. java 20000 + sun certification(7500 - 40%) 4500 = 24500 Aptech costs approx 8000 per paper(core java + adv. java + j2se) = 24000 + sun certification(7500 - 25 to 30%)5625 to 5250 = 29625 or 29250 karRox costs core java 8000 + adv java 12000 + j2se 12000 = 38000 this all in one package is for 24000 + taxes - they basically provide core and adv java programm - they tell students to go for j2se after they are confident in core and adv java.... NIIT duration 2 months (fast track monday to friday 9-1) Aptech duration 4 months ( M/W/F - 2 hours) KarRox - 4 to six months give ur inputs to choose which one... :help: and @ santanu i would have never mentioned that i was doing CA - i have never thaught of doing CA , may be it was some one else and i may have suggested him something and all... neways i have been doing SGML coding for KGL for more that a year(home based) then i took up BPO(back office) for past 4 months... i always had an inclination towards java... when i was in 1st year of my B.com degree i had done 2 years of diploma from CMC Ltd. there i was the only kid to get atleast cleared in java exams and project... i want to go for a cource which will help me get plcaement as my academics are weak... |

To pursue a job in Java, these are the main things you need to be thorough with.
Core Java, Struts, Spring, Hibernate, Java Script, XML, Ajax IDE/Server - JBoss/WebSphere/WebLogic/Eclipse Databases - Oracle, My SQL etc I dont know about Mumbai, but in Hyderabad and Bangalore, there are lot of small insti where you can pay 5k - 7k and learn all the concepts. Note: A basic head start will be given in the insti than to grope in the dark, not knowing what to do, but you have to build your knowledge in these on your own. NIIT etc, I think there will be some use, but at a premium cost. Enquire your friends, who can tell you where you can get coaching for Java cheaply. I have a doubt. I remember you saying you are pursuing CA in some threads long back. Is that true or I misread some threads and thought it is you. |

Sun provides different levels of certification for proficiency in Java. Apart from the MCA, such a certification will be immensely helpful in making a career in Java. This is the link to Sun's Cetrification page.
The various levels of certification are - - Sun Certified Java Associate (SCJA) - Sun Certified Java Programmer (SCJP) - Sun Certified Java Developer (SCJD) - Sun Certified Web Component Developer (SCWCD) - Sun Certified Business Component Developer (SCBCD) - Sun Certified Developer For Java Web Services (SCDJWS) - Sun Certified Mobile Application Developer (SCMAD) - Sun Certified Enterprise Architect (SCEA) This thread is meant for building up an online resources and question bank relating to Sun's certifications. Books can be posted in the "Books and Downloads" thread. However you can post books specifically dealing with Java certification exams here. These are the first few links to such online resources / mock tests / quiz- http://www.valoxo.ch/jr/mocks/mock01a.html http://certification.about.com/od/freeques...lscea_intro.htm http://certification.about.com/od/certific...cjp14_intro.htm http://certification.about.com/od/freeques...lscea_intro.htm http://certcities.com/editorial/popquiz/ http://www.jaydeetechnology.co.uk/certification.htm http://www.certmag.com/issues/feb02/sg/test.cfm http://certquizzer.com/ http://www.jchq.net/mockexams/exam1.htm http://www.javaprepare.com/quests/test.html http://www.jchq.net/mockexams/exam2.htm http://www.angelfire.com/or/abhilash/Main.html http://www.javacaps.com/scjp_mockexams1.html http://www.javacertificate.com/ http://www.measureup.com/cart/DisplayProdu...e=&mid=&crttrk= http://www.sunguru.com/tests/tests.shtml http://www.whizlabs.com/jwhiz.html |
