Any standard C book will do for our purpose. In fact, I think our study materials are more than sufficient. "Programming with C" by Venugopal and Prasad is also a good book and used as reference in many colleges including DOEACC "A' Level course.

Pointers are concepts that many find difficult to understand. But pointers are an important topic, particularly in the area of Data Structures. Hope this will help in clarifying the concept.
Here is a great tutorial on pointers in C |

CHECK IT OUT... http://online-books-reference.blogspot.com/ C in a Nutshell Publisher O'Reilly Author(s) Tony Crawford ISBN 0596006977 Release Date 01 December 2005 Learning a language--any language--involves a process wherein you learn to rely less and less on instruction and more increasingly on the aspects of the language you've mastered. Whether you're learning French, Java, or C, at some point you'll set aside the tutorial and attempt to converse on your own. It's not necessary to know every subtle facet of French in order to speak it well, especially if there's a good dictionary available. Likewise, C programmers don't need to memorize every detail of C in order to write good programs. What they need instead is a reliable, comprehensive reference that they can keep nearby. C in a Nutshell is that reference. This long-awaited book is a complete reference to the C programming language and C runtime library. Its purpose is to serve as a convenient, reliable companion in your day-to-day work as a C programmer. C in a Nutshell covers virtually everything you need to program in C, describing all the elements of the language and illustrating their use with numerous examples. The book is divided into three distinct parts. The first part is a fast-paced description, reminiscent of the classic Kernighan & Ritchie text on which many C programmers cut their teeth. It focuses specifically on the C language and preprocessor directives, including extensions introduced to the ANSI standard in 1999. These topics and others are covered: * Numeric constants * Implicit and explicit type conversions * Expressions and operators * Functions * Fixed-length and variable-length arrays * Pointers * Dynamic memory management * Input and output The second part of the book is a comprehensive reference to the C runtime library; it includes an overview of the contents of the standard headers and a description of each standard library function. Part III provides the necessary knowledge of the C programmer's basic tools: the compiler, the make utility, and the debugger. The tools described here are those in the GNU software collection. C in a Nutshell is the perfect companion to K&R, and destined to be the most reached-for reference on your desk. That would be great Manish. Posting resources are great but one can contribute in a better way by participating in discussions on our subjects, answering question and even by asking questions. That would make this forum more dynamic and not simply a vast repository of resources. As we can see, ppl. get very little time to read anything other than the course materials so too much resources simple distract one from the main purpose of studying the course materials.
Regarding resources, you have to stick to smaller files. We don't have space to host large tutorials or videos etc. I have over 250 GB of such resources..unfortunately can't post all of it. PPTs (especially PPTs used by faculties in various study centres - we already have some), pdfs and links to online courses are ok. We can even post moderate sized books and software too. Torrents and links to downloadable books can be attached too. What we are looking for are rare resources that are hard to get and all those essential resources and books which are referred by IGNOU. For example, IEEE documents on software engineering, reference books etc. Very small sized files can be posted right here after zipping them. Larger files can be posted in our filexoom repository and linked here. I'd send you the username / password of our filexoom repository after the exams where you can post larger sized file. To summarize, the main purpose of the forum is to interact with other students and not downloading resources. A static website would have sufficed for downloading resources. But in a dynamic forum, interaction and discussions are most important. Resources which are relevant to our study are useful though. |

Well, even before making this Member and Active Member differentiations, it was seen that only 1% or 2% members were contributing or participating actively and the rest were downloaders.
The new category of Active Members was created as a carrot and stick policy. In any case, carrot and stick policy won't work too much for people who are not genuinely interested. I can't think of any carrot or stick policy other than restricting resources. I've already demoted some members from Active to general. So the stick is there too. Basically, this forum would have run as good with basically 20 - 30 persons. I have not yet fully moved the valuable resources to the active member exclusive area. Will do that after the exam. Of course there has to be a balance between what resource to keep in general area and what to move to the exclusive area. Too much available outside and people will never try to become active members and too little and new members will lose interest. I think this forum offers far more resources than any other forum or website, whether free or otherwise. But I feel that what we want are genuinely interested people and not merely more members just to show that this forum has lots of members. We can get on with quality and not quantity. Towards that goal I am thinking of cancelling the membership of members who have not made a single post for a considerable period (we can debate about the duration of such period). Other than the reduction in the number of members, I don't think that will do us any harm. Or if it looks bad, we can ban them indefinitely. |

This is a perplexing question for me, whether to distinguish members as Members and Active Members, restricting some valuable resources.
In search of other forums for IGNOU courses I found out one more forum, which has both BCA and MCA information, but with limited information. www.ignousolutions.com is one such example, where without patrons, entered a dying state. Seeing the number of posts only administrator and some two or three members contributed, otherwise others are just visitors  I therefore feel there should be some CARROT & STICK policies implemented, otherwise we have seen an example above. One hiccup here is, if members don't find anything useful, there might be a chance that they never turn up again here. ~Naresh |
